    Itimad-ud-tomb, daulah’s also known as the “Baby Taj Mahal,” is a Mughal mausoleum that is frequently mistaken for the Taj Mahal. This is India’s first entirely marble tomb. The tomb was commissioned by Nur Jahan, Jahangir’s wife, for her father, Mirza Gheyas Beg (later Itimad-ud-daulah), a minister in Shah Jahan’s court.
    Itimad-ud-tomb daulah’s marks the transition from the first to second phases of Mughal architecture. This was the first structure built on the banks of the Yamuna River to use pietra dura. Its architecture is primarily Indo-Islamic, with arched entrances and octagonal-shaped towers. Itimad-ud-daulah Tomb appears to be a jewel box set in a garden when viewed from above. Built on the banks of the Yamuna, this magnificent mausoleum inspired the later construction of one of the world’s wonders, the “Taj Mahal.”
