Krishna Janmabhoomi, Mathura
Shri Krishna Janmasthan — the Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura — marks the very prison cell where Lord Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasudeva. It is the most sacred spot in all of Braj, and the natural first darshan of any Mathura Vrindavan tour.
About
The birthplace of
Lord Krishna
The Krishna Janmabhoomi complex in Mathura is built around the Garbha Griha — the underground cell where Krishna appeared at midnight on Janmashtami. Beside it stand the Keshav Dev Temple and the grand Bhagavata Bhavan, their spires rising over the old city.
Because of its history, the Krishna Janmabhoomi Mathura complex has tight security. Phones, bags and electronics are strictly prohibited inside — plan to leave everything in your vehicle. Despite the queues, standing in the Janmasthan is the emotional high point of a Braj pilgrimage.
