Vrindavan · Sacred Grove
Nidhivan, Vrindavan
No place in Braj is wrapped in more mystery than Nidhivan. This dense grove of low, intertwined tulsi trees is believed to be where Lord Krishna performs the raasleela with Radha and the gopis every single night — which is why not a soul, not even a bird or monkey, is allowed to remain in Nidhivan after the evening aarti.
The Mystery
Why Nidhivan
is unlike anywhere
Nidhivan’s trees are short, hollow and twisted together in pairs — devotees believe each pair becomes a gopi and her sakhi at night. After the evening darshan, the priests lock the grove, leave prasad, water and Radha-Krishna’s resting bed in the Rang Mahal, and everyone departs Nidhivan.
By morning, the bed is said to be disturbed, the water and datun used. Houses surrounding Nidhivan have no windows facing the grove, and locals say anyone who tries to witness the nightly leela loses their sight or sanity. Whether faith or folklore, the atmosphere inside Nidhivan Vrindavan is unforgettable.
